FUNDING

Funding for Roots In The City comes primarily from the Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), which has for three years supported the organization with grants totaling more than $320,000. The CRA also continues to support the organization’s Landscape and Horticultural Training Institute for inner-city residents. Roots In The City also receives support from the Allegany Franciscan Ministries, Camillus House, and from the Collins Center for Public Policy.

Since 2009, Roots In The City has received two grants from the State of Florida Division of Historical Resources in order to conduct archaeological research in Rosewood, Florida. The all-black town near Gainesville, Florida was destroyed by a white mob in 1923.

Roots In The City is also supported by Miami-Dade County Community Image Advisory Board (CIAB), John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Camillus House, Bander Family Foundation Fund, Dade Heritage Foundation, Florida International University Libraries, Downtown Miami Partnership, Wholesome Wave Foundation, Michael's Genuine Food & Drink, Coca-Cola Enterprises, The Collection, Allen Brothers, and the many individual donors who help sustain our mission.
